History

The History of
Abuma Manufacturing

Abuma Manufacturing is a leading contract metal fabrication company located in London, Ontario, Canada. Since our founding in 1980, Abuma has earned a reputation for precision, reliability, and excellence in custom metal fabrication. As a sister company to Armo Tool Ltd., Abuma is vertically integrated to deliver end-to-end manufacturing, prototyping, and assembly solutions, leveraging shared expertise and resources to exceed customer expectations.

1980

Abuma Manufacturing was founded in 1980 by Jan Maarschalkerweerd, an innovative inventor and entrepreneur with a passion for excellence. The company began in Maarschalkerweerd’s garage, where he designed and fabricated parts for Trojan Technologies’ wastewater purification systems. His dedication to quality and problem-solving earned him several patents in fluid purification and water treatment technologies.

1983

By 1983, Abuma outgrew its garage beginnings and moved into a dedicated facility. The company quickly established itself as a trusted provider of build-to-print custom metal fabrication, specializing in stainless steel and aluminum components for industries such as defense, energy, and wastewater treatment. Over time, Abuma expanded its capabilities to include project management, prototyping, and complete end-to-end solutions.

2002

In 2002, fueled by steady growth, Abuma began construction on a state-of-the-art, 100,000-square-foot facility on Admiral Drive in London, Ontario. Completed in 2004, this facility became the company’s permanent home, providing the capacity and advanced infrastructure to support large-scale projects and meet the evolving demands of its clients.

2006

Beyond his accomplishments in business, Jan Maarschalkerweerd was a passionate philanthropist who believed in giving back to the community. One of Abuma Manufacturing’s proudest achievements came in 2006, with its pivotal role in creating the Canadian Veterans Memorial Carillon Liberation Sculpture, located in Victoria Park, London, Ontario.

2006

This memorial was a gift from the people of the Netherlands to honor the Canadian troops who liberated the Dutch during World War II. Abuma engineered, designed, and manufactured the stainless steel framework that supports the 18 bells cast in the Netherlands, as well as the internal steel structure encased in granite. The monument was fully assembled by Abuma, and as a testament to the team’s craftsmanship, the initials of every employee involved in the project are etched into the structure, alongside Maarschalkerweerd’s own.

2017

In 2017, Abuma Manufacturing joined forces with Armo Tool Ltd. This acquisition united two industry leaders, creating a vertically integrated organization that provides comprehensive solutions in custom metal fabrication, tooling, and automation. By combining resources and expertise, the partnership enables both companies to deliver exceptional value and innovative solutions across a range of industries.

2025

For over 40 years, Abuma Manufacturing has been synonymous with innovation, craftsmanship, and quality. With the combined capabilities of Abuma and Armo Tool Ltd., we provide unmatched expertise in custom metal fabrication and end-to-end manufacturing solutions.
